Max Burton


Max Burton, the founder of Matter, is a product and interaction designer with over two decades of experience. From housewares to digitally enabled products, he is inspired by participating in the creation of the future that melds technology with art and humanity.

Prior to forming Matter, Max worked as the Global Executive Creative Director for Product Design at frog, the Creative Director of Nike’s Tech Lab, and the VP of Design at Smart in New York. His work has been exhibited at the MoMa in New York, the Design museum in London and the Chicago Athenaeum.


Adam Leonards

Creative Director

Adam is a Creative Director at Matter where he leads large, multidisciplinary programs from concept creation to product delivery. His expertise and passion is in the integration of hardware and digital design.

Prior to joining Matter in 2013, Adam was a Principal Designer at frog and an Industrial Designer at fuseproject. In 2003, he moved to San Francisco to pursue a Masters of Industrial Design at the Academy of Art University MFA program.


Murphy Freelen

Managing Director

Well versed in guiding and growing creative services firms, Murphy provides strategic leadership for MATTER by leveraging her deep understanding of clients’ desires and design’s capacity for generating business results.

Prior to MATTER, she was VP of Digital Services at Smart Design where she specialized in integrating digital, physical, and brand properties into compelling and unexpected experiences that elevate people’s daily use of technology. Further, Murphy held a variety of roles at frog design, including general manager of the San Francisco studio and director of operations/program management. In her wilder days, she worked at SPY magazine and MCA Records and ran a photo studio. Murphy earned her MBA at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and her BA from Stanford University.


Brian Trautsch

Director of Client Services

Bryan is the Director of Client Services at MATTER. He brings over 16 years of design strategy and management experience together to help clients and teams define and achieve their product and service design objectives.

Before joining MATTER, Bryan was Head of Strategy at Great Fridays where he lead service design initiatives for Microsoft, Health Nucleus, and Citrix. During his 7 years at frog, Bryan sharpened his skills on a range of client engagements to identify opportunities, generating concepts, and bring new experiences to market for such premier clients as AT&T, Intel, Cisco, and JP Morgan Chase.

To keep things balanced, Bryan loves spending time with his family, running, and fixing things.


Iganzio Moresco

VP Experience Design

Ignazio Moresco has been focused on the intersection of design and product management for more than 15 years in the U.S. and Europe. He is currently VP of UX Design at Matter. Prior to joining Matter, he was Head of Design for the TV platforms business at Ericsson, where he oversaw design across their product portfolio addressing an audience of over 60 millions worldwide. In different capacities, Ignazio worked at Microsoft Bing Mobile, Frog Design, Smart Design and other start-ups and fortune 500 companies. In his career, he served a wide range of clients including Toyota, Fiat-Chrisler, Chase, Bank of America, AT&T, T- Mobile, and HP among others, and was awarded numerous industry recognitions and patents.
