When it comes to home security, there’s no better icon than the loyal family dog. Protective, trustworthy, and lovable, he has a constant but benign presence—until something threatens his pack. With a nod to Stephen King’s infamous canine, CUJO was born. Its unassuming shape blends in other household items while the on-product interface resembles a dog’s eyes: usually sleeping, but open and alert as soon as it detects any unusual activity. The dog emoji interface is not only cute; it’s easy to understand and makes a scary subject like Internet security much less intimidating for the general consumer.

With the support of MATTER, CUJO launched on Indiegogo and surpassed their goal by almost 800%. Since then, CUJO has been lauded in publications like Wired, TechCrunch, and Immortal News and was a Finalist for Fastco’s 2016 Innovation By Design award. Cujo is now available on Amazon with a stellar five-star rating.


Instead of the designing something destined to be hidden away in a closet, we encouraged CUJO to create a product that begs to be seen. Something that blends in when it needs to, but grabs your attention when activated. To do that, we needed to create a design that people would actually want to display in their homes, with an emotive character people would engage with.
