Enter Oliver, the brainchild of Khalid Aboujassoum. A small device that sits on your kitchen counter, Oliver makes restaurant-quality cooking easy while also helping people discover new cuisines from around the world. After presenting his idea on Stars of Science (Qatar’s version of Shark Tank), Khalid asked MATTER to bring his functional prototype into the real world.
Matter’s challenge was twofold: design a consumer-ready product that’s easy to use and small enough to sit on your counter, and to expand its scope by developing an integrated online component.
The integrated smartphone app allows home chefs to browse and download thousands of Oliver-compatible online recipes and create convenient, automatic shopping lists. When you’ve got everything you need, the app tells you how to load each canister with food. The canisters then automatically drop ingredients into the pot below at precisely the right time and temperature, so you can enjoy a perfectly cooked meal with no hassle, every time.
Since we designed both the physical and digital aspects of the product, we had a lot of insight into the end-to-end customer experience. This helped us make some important creative decisions about how to control the device and where to display information. It also inspired us to develop an online recipe store where home chefs could explore new cuisines from around the world. Want to try for yourself? Soon you can—Oliver is scheduled for release in early 2017.
